Kyoto Gion Matsuri Festival at Harbour Grand Hong Kong
17/06/2010
Nagomi will present the specially prepared dishes to celebrate the Gion Matsuri Kyoto Festival in July and August, while other restaurants in Harbour Grand Hong Kong are set to create the summer-beating cuisine for gourmets and school kids alike.
The Kyoto Gion festival was started in 869 A.D when a serious plague spread in Kyoto. To stop the plague, young men carried wooden floats as a divine intervention. The plague soon ended, and this event became a popular. The highlight of the Kyoto Gion Matsuri is the Yamohoko-junko – the procession of colourful floats through downtown Kyoto. Dressed in traditional costumes, men will pull the floats through the alleys. Each of the floats is decorated with tapestries or fabrics from Nishijin, Kyoto, with their own characteristics. Pike eel, with its rich in omega-3 fatty acid, high in Vitamin A and B12, was one of the key nutritional food the Kyoto people ate during the plague. Summer season is the time when pike eel is in its best. Nagomi, celebrating the Kyoto Gion Festival, presents an 8-course set menu including the festival’s must-have lavish delicacies of the pike eel broth, pike eel sushi as well as the seasonal summer eatery of Japanese seabass and braised unagi with mizuna. Price at HK$968 per person.
White asparagus, freshly flown in from Germany, with its delicate taste and tender texture, along with its detoxifying effect and being low in calories, it is the perfect summer vegetable. Favourite dishes from Le 188˚ Restaurant & Lounge this summer include the cured foie gras white asparagus mousse, crunchy tangerine, micro herbs, confit pork knuckle steamed white asparagus, bacon jelly, mache as well as the white asparagus crème brulee.
Over at Harbour Grand Café, the Foie Gras themed dinner buffet this July and August will open food-lovers’ eyes on the width and depth that this sophisticated ingredient – foie gras – could do. Featuring the much-favoured foie gras sushi, foie gras mousse and port wine jelly, wagyu beef & foie gras burger, the buffet, comes together with free flow of house wine and soft drinks, and again, a complimentary abalone per full-paying adult each visit, should not be missed. During lunch buffet, free flow of soft drinks and juices will be provided. A kid will even enjoy half price for every two full-paying adults for both lunch and dinner buffet.
Kwan Cheuk Heen brings you the fresh wild mushrooms from Yunnan, China, that are perfect to improve the immune system as well as the heart. Presented in various styles, in soup, salted, fried or steamed, there is a guarantee that one if not all of these dishes will satisfy one’s palate.
